Club Information
Established more than 50 years ago, Keynsham Amateur Swimming Club is highly regarded in competitive swimming circles, however, it has more to it than competition alone.
The first squad of the Club is the teaching group which meets on Mondays and helps youngsters to become competent swimmers.
Those with the right skill and aptitude will be asked to join the junior squad which meets as a squad on Mondays & Wednesdays, with further training opportunities on Friday nights. Swimmers in the junior squad will for the first time have an opportunity to qualify to swim for KASC in galas.
When a swimmer has achieved competence in all strokes they will be assessed for entry to the senior squad. The squad meets Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with further traning slots on Friday nights.
The Club also offers traning opportunities for the older swimmer via its masters squad, which meets on Wednesday and Friday evenings.
Beyond the club
Swimmers with the right attitude and qualifying times will have open to them, Long Course training at Bath University on Sundays.
Those who have National qualifying times and/or success in the Western Counties Championships, may be invited to join the University of Bath Swimming Club. Members of this Club swim at Olymipic Level. Membership of the University of Bath Swimming Club will be in addition to membership of KASC.
Sport England Clubmark
In 2002 Sport England introduced the Clubmark Accreditation Scheme to:
- Ensure that accrediting partners apply core common criteria to ensure that consistent good practice and minimum operating standards are delivered through all club development and accreditation schemes.
- To empower parent(s)/carer(s) when choosing a club for their children.
- To ensure that Clubmark accredited clubs are recognised through a common approach to branding.
- To provide a focus around which all organisations involved in sport can come together to support good practice in sports clubs working with children and young people.
Clubmark accreditation is awarded to clubs that comply with minimum operating standards in four areas:
- The playing programme
- Duty of care and child protection
- Sports equity and ethics
- Club management
This and plenty more information can be found on the official Clubmark website.
ASA Swim 21
Swim 21 is the ASA's Club Development model - a planning tool, based on the principles of Long Term Athlete Development, enabling clubs to help athletes, teachers, coaches and administrators to achieve their full potential. It focuses particularly on the needs of athletes - striving to provide them with the best possible support and environment.
Swim 21 Accreditation is a 'Quality mark'. It recognises nationally and regionally the clubs that are committed to providing safe, effective and quality services for the benefit of their members.
Clubs work steadily towards the attainment of a series of outcomes all of which are seen as essential if the right level of support is to be provided at each stage of an athlete's development.
Swim 21 Accreditation is available to ASA clubs of all aquatic disciplines that are positioned at one or more of the four levels of:
- Teaching
- Skill Development
- Competitive Development
- Performance
The ASA has a commitment to achieving its equity targets throughout the sport. Swim 21 is no different and the Association is keen to support clubs in the shared objective of widening the participation base and hence the performance of the sport as a whole.
KASC is affiliated to the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA), the National Body governing the sport.
